OUTINGS

Visits to the FRC at Islington are a thing of the past now that it has closed. The book form indexes are in storage, no longer accessible by the general public. I wonder what fate awaits them. Other records, film, fiche etc. including computers are being relocated to the TNA at Kew . The plans by TNA to accommodate these extra files and consequent extra visitors are well under way scheduled for completion by April/May. Our June trip should see all back on an even keel, hopefully worth the wait. Visitors will very likely need to readjust to the new surroundings and new procedures. Perhaps it will seem just like your first visit, all over again.

The TNA home page has been updated to show new visitor rules and floor plans. You will see the main changes concern Readers Tickets, how to obtain one and when it needs to be used. There are floor plans available for download. The security barrier on the ground floor has been relocated to the entrance of the Document Reading Room (1 st floor) and a new one has been installed at the entrance to the map Room (2 nd floor) Click for latest news about disruptions .

The booking list is now open for the trip in June. Forms can be found in The Midland Ancestor, you may photocopy it to keep your magazine complete if you wish. Alternatively I can send a form (pdf format) by email for you to print, please email me coachtrips@bmsgh.org

The Outings programme can be found by clicking here.

Other branches of the Society also organise outings to the same places from time to time. Please ask the appropriate branch secretary for details.
