Welcome to the Border History website

This is the name chosen to represent the societies on this website. We are not a formal body, but an informal group of enthusiasts. In the main we represent the local and family history groups of the area, though lone researchers are also welcome to join us.

Our aim is to encourage the growth and development of interest in local and family history in North Staffordshire and South Cheshire by working together wherever we can. Beginning in 2000 Sixteen successful one day fairs have been held around the Staffordshire  / Cheshire border at Alsager, Audley, Biddulph, Burslem, Congleton, Kidsgrove, Leek, and Sandbach.

The next fair will be held on Saturday 8th October in Congleton Town Hall, 9.30am - 2pm and will include a programme of talks in the adjacent museum, a display of Congleton’s civic treasures and the opportunity of a tour of the Town Hall building which celebrates its 150th anniversary this year (see poster and programme of timed events). Admission will be £1.00.

The group is not exclusive. We hope that other societies, groups will join us - many took part in the previous events. If your society or group wishes to be part of the group you will be welcome at our meetings. We work on the basis that all participants will play an equal part: jobs are not left to one or two individuals, but shared on a voluntary basis. At the same time, it is fully appreciated the main interests and concerns of members are their own societies and we intend to retain the informal nature of the group.  Click HERE to see photo of presentation to Alsager School's 6th Form Pupils
